Free Comic Book Day took place on May 5 and Diamond Comic Distributors, the "non-monopoly" in charge of distributing comics and co-ordinating FCBD has reported that the event was a rousing success. They estimate 1.5 million people attended and received 5.3 million comics at 2,428 locations.

Diamond also estimates that $5 million in free advertising was generated for the comics industry, leaving out the fact that the advertising isn't free as the shops needed to buy the comics themselves.

According to a self-reported survey, over 90% of retailers reported the event as "extremely positive" or "positive." While 59% of retailers reported that FCBD was their best sales day of the year.

Next year's Free Comic Book Day is set for May 4, 2019.
