Marvel's Fresh Start Pushes May's Comic Sales To Recent High

Four of Marvel's titles shipped over 100,000 copies each.

Comic sales were up this May, as seven different titles shipped over 100,000 copies each. This many weren't necessarily sold to customers, but were ordered by comic book shops. Amazing Spider-Man #800 sold 411,480 copies at $9.99 a pop, while three Marvel Fresh Start titles sold six digits as well.

The top 300 comics sold in May 2018 were up year over year 9% as far as dollar sales, but overall units year over year were down 2%.

Year over year sales for graphic novels were down 16% with the top 300 graphic novels combining for $6.09 million in sales.

Marvel is sitting pretty at the top of market share at 38.35% with DC close behind at 37.87%. Amazing Spider-Man #800 put Marvel far and away the leader in terms of dollar sales as well with 42.64% of the marketplace with DC in second at 25.71%.
