Netflix saved Lucifer from cancellation following Fox's lack of renewal for a fourth season. The new season will consist of ten episodes, not counting the two episodes already produced for a presumed Fox-fourth season. While half the episode count of previous seasons of Lucifer, each episode will still run around 43 minutes.
Production originally planned on having a Fox-helmed Season 4 split into two parts so having a half-episode count works with their plans. Co-showrunner Ildy Modrovich told TV Line:
We were going to have two parts to it anyway, so we'll just tell a really strong, gnarly first part," Modrovich enthuses. Doing so, says Henderson, "lets us concentrate the story and focus it, and that's what's really exciting about this. We have a really strong first half that is now going to make for an amazing story."
Season 4 of Lucifer is set to start filming in August.
