Robert Kirkman's Invincible ran 144 issues without so much as a movie or television adaptation. Not for a lack of trying though, while Kirkman usually creates an adaption alongside the comic. As recently as February of this year Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg were attached to a helm a major motion picture adaptation of Invincible.

Now it's announced that Amazon has handed out a straight-to-series order for an animated series that will initially run eight episodes. The "adult animated" series is by Kirkman's Skybound, with Simon Racioppa (Teen Titans) set as showrunner. This is Kirkman's first project under his overall deal with Amazon Studios after breaking ranks with AMC.

Amazon's animated series and Rogen/Goldberg's live-action movie are both being produced concurrently.
