IDW is boldly going where they seem to love to go - geek franchise crossovers. Two of their licensed comic properties, Star Trek and Transformers, have had a lot of comic crossovers with different other properties over the years, but not with one another. Well, that changes this September when Star Trek Vs. Transformers launches.
Star Trek Vs. Transformers is a four-issue miniseries written by John Barber and Mike Johnson, with art by Philip Murphy and colors by Leonardo Ito. The twist to this series is that the series will be based on their animated counterparts; Star Trek: The Animated Series (1973) and The Transformers (1984).
io9 describes the premise of the series:
The series will begin in the Star Trek universe, when the U.S.S. Enterprise answers a distress call on the edge of Klingon Space, only to find a dilithium mine under attack from 20th century-era jets and helicopters. When a certain red truck shows up to lend a hand, however, Kirk and the crew discover that there's more than meets the eye to their new vehicular friends and foes.
