Before Spider-Man was rebooted and shared with Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sony had ambitious plans for the world of Spider-Man movies. Though some of the projects, like the rumored Sinister Six movie, seemed to be put on ice; and Silver and Black may be in trouble, it does look like Sony still have big plans for the Spider-Man universe.
The Venom movie is still on track to release this year, as is the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, starring several spider-people. Of course we'll be getting a sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming, and hell, we may even get a Nightwatch movie. Well, add another title to the list: Silk.
Silk was introduced in the comics in 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man #1. The character was bitten by the same radioactive spider that Peter Parker, giving her super speed, a spider-sense, and the ability to generate organic webbing. This previously unknown character, a Korean-American named Cindy Moon, was locked in a bunker by Ezekiel to hide her from Morlun.
We're not sure how much of this origin will be used by Sony in the movie, as things change when adapted for the big screen. It is also unknown if they will use the same character that was just named Cindy in Spider-Man: Homecoming played by Tiffany Espensen. If so, they'll certainly have to change her origin a bit. We also have no idea if this will tie into the Marvel Cinematic Universe or not since Marvel and Sony don't seem to be clear on that whole thing either.
Sony isn't confirming that this project is in the works so there is no release date at this time.
