Just announced during the Bat Family panel at SDCC is that we at long last know who will be taking over Detective Comics fully (the comic since the departure of writer James Tynion IV has been going on with fill-in arcs to tease future comics. Speaking of that. Where's the damn official Outsiders announcement DC?!). and that will be Pete Tomasi and Doug Mahnke. They will be taking over the comic with #997 and in their first issue. They will be bringing back the tights to Batman. Here's the official announcement via DC's Twitter:
JUST REVEALED at the DC Batman Family panel — writer @PeterJTomasi and artist Doug Mahnke are taking over DETECTIVE COMICS, starting with Issue 994! Are you ready for their run? #DCSDCC pic.twitter.com/beBZMPNYbt— DC (@DCComics) July 20, 2018
I'm a bit indifferent to this one. While Tomasi has been a good writer on Robin (Damian Wayne), his Batman has been-- different. Not only that his choices on the Bat Family have never sat well with me. Given he's kind ignores two characters I really enjoy in Batman comics. I guess we'll see when his first issue hits.
