The character was originally announced as part of an Arrowverse crossover.

Back in May, it was announced that Batwoman would be joining the Arrowverse, by debuting during the annual CW Arrowverse crossover event in December. This week CW president Mark Pedowitz said that the character is actually getting her own pilot in addition to appearing in the crossover.

"Greg is in early stages of development at this point. We'll do a pilot for mid-season, whether it goes to series, I cannot tell you."

Arrowverse architect Greg Berlanti is overseeing the project with The Vampire Diaries executive producer Caroline Dries.

Batwoman, otherwise known as Kate Kane, is one of several vigilantes who protect Gotham City. The character, first introduced as Kathy Kane in Detective Comics in 1956, was reimagined for DC Comics' New 52, with the character now a Jewish lesbian.
