In January of this year, Universal's adaptation of Cowboy Ninja Viking was ready to start pre-production with the addition of director Michelle McLaren. She is known for her television work which includes directing stints on The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, Game Of Thrones, and The X-Files.
But now the studio has wiped the film from its 2019 slate. As recently as last week, production was going fine with the addition of Priyanka Chopra as the film's female lead opposite Chris Pratt. Sources say the project has suffered from script issues, and rumors of a shutdown have percolated since March.
Published by Image Comics in 2009, Cowboy Ninja Viking, written by A.J. Lieberman with art by Riley Rossmo, revolves around a counter-intelligence unit of Multiple Personality Disorder patients, formed by psychotherapist Dr. Sebastian Ghislain, who are transformed into agents known as Triplets (referring to the three different personalities inside their minds). Pratt's characters' three personas would be Cowboy, Ninja, and Viking.
