Batman and the Outsiders Spins Off Out of Detective Comics!

The worst kept secret at DC Comics was finally officially announced as writer Bryan Edward Hill will be taking the team he introduced in the current arc in Detective Comics and spin them off to be the newest team of Outsiders.

Today, writer Bryan Edward Hill concluded his all too brief run on Detective Comics. The story was very comfy (see a review I did of an issue) as it dealt with Batman bringing in Black Lightning to be a mentor figure to Cassandra Cain (Batgirl Orphan) and Duke Thomas (Signal) while all four dealing with a villain named Karma. Katana and Barbara Gordon also get wrangled into the fiend's plot as well.

Even before the arc began, some theorized given the title of the arc being called "On the Outside" was going to be a prelude to a new Batman & the Outsiders comic. The final issue of Metal even continued on with that theme with Batman at the end of it telling Black Lightning that they'd be assembling a team of Outsiders to do what the Justice League can't. So many fans (including myself) were chewing at the bit waiting for the official confirmation of the comic to be revealed during the DC solicitations for September, October, and November. They never came, yet still many held out hope this would keep coming and still awaited word for it to be announced.

So the worst kept "secret" at DC Comics was finally officially revealed today coinciding the arc ending with Hill revealing in an interview with the Washington Post, that yes his Tec arc leads into a new Batman & the Outsiders ongoing (with Red Hood & the Outlaws artist Dexter Soy joining him). Here's what Hill had to say in the interview:

All I'll say is, it is a team book with Batman in it, but the safety is off," Hill said. "Hopefully it will be surprising and thrilling in ways that I don't think people will quite expect. I'm becoming known a bit for a certain kind of intensity in my work, and I think this 'Outsiders' project will also continue on in that pathway.

Here's #1 cover by Tyler Kirkham and Arif Prianto:

As for when the comic will be debuting? Well, DC editor, Chris Conroy (who teased yesterday of this announcement), kind of helps us with that detail with this tweet a few hours ago:

So yes, Batman & the Outsiders #1 will be coming out in December! I for one will be adding it to my pull list. WILL YOU?!
