In a move that will not surprise any, Disney has halted early production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (per the Hollywood Reporter). The move is considered to be temporary, and until the two sides can figure out what to do with the popular franchise, which hit a huge snag when it's writer/director James Gunn was controversially fired from the third film.
Preproduction was to begin shortly, but with no director at the helm, and the entire cast rallying to wanting Gunn rehired (only for Disney to stand firm on their decision) forced the move. They decided to stop production until they can "regroup". THR also says via a "source" that Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi has met with Marvel to discuss "something". What that is? Who knows other than mindless speculation than him being the only one who could possibly salvage the project at this point.
