Almost a year ago, just a few episodes into its freshman season, Star Trek: Discovery was renewed for a second season. Though there was speculation that the second season would start in January 2019, the official word for the start was "early 2019". January 2019 makes sense as the series of shorts called Star Trek: Short Treks ends on January 3. Well, it's October already so CBS is finally ready to confirm the launch month (but not date) of season 2 via a poster, and it is January 2019:
The poster features a Starfleet emblem-like shape formed by streaks of light and blooms. These blooms are likely a nod to the "seven red bursts" or "mysterious signals" referred to in the season 2 first look video. Replacing the star in the Enterprise emblem is a bird-like shape. A new alien or a reference to the Romulan Star Empire? We'll see. The tagline for the upcoming season appears to be "Discover the Next Adventure".
In the same announcement revealing the season 2 poster, CBS also announced who will be moderating the Star Trek: Discovery panel at this week's New York Comic Con. The moderator will be Rebecca Romijn (2000's X-Men's Mystique), who is playing the Enterprise's Number One in Discovery's season 2. The NYCC 2018 Star Trek: Discovery panel will take place on Saturday, October 6 at 4:00pm New York time.
