The colossal manga and anime hit Attack on Titan, will once again be adapted into a live-action film, but this time will get the Hollywood treatment. Yes, once again, as it previously hit the big screen (and small screen) as a Japanese live-action production in 2015. In January 2017, reports hit the internet that saying there was a live-action Hollywood version in the works, but publisher Kodansha poured water on that rumor the next day.

Warner Bros. will be bringing on board Andy Muschietti to direct the Western Attack on Titan film. Muschietti is now well-known for the It film remake. Other details about the upcoming film are sparse. No release date or details of what the this version of Attack on Titan will be like. We generally are skeptical about adaptations from anime/manga by gaijin, but at least the characters in Attack on Titan aren't supposed to be Japanese (except maybe Mikasa Ackerman), so similar to Alita: Battle Angel, the whitewashing  controversy won't be a big factor.

Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) started life as a manga by Hajime Isayama in 2009 was adapted into an anime in 2013. The anime streamed in the USA via Crunchyroll and Funimation, and aired on television on Toonami. Part one of season three just finished airing in Japan (and streaming in the US), and is expected to conclude the story in April 2019. The story takes place in a pre-industrial revolution European-like world, where the last of humanity lives in walled off cities, protected from the human-eating giant Titans. Over a hundred years have passed since humanity were the prey of the Titans, until one day the Titans breached the wall…
