Andrew Lincoln May Be Done With The Walking Dead TV Show, But He'll Be Back For Three Movies

Isn't a movie just a long TV episode?

Andrew Lincoln just can't stay away from The Walking Dead, or more likely, those fat Walking Dead paychecks. While the actor is officially gone from the TV show, he'll reprise his role as Rick Grimes in three made-for-TV movies to air on AMC. The Walking Dead Chief Content Officer Scott Gimple is currently writing the first movie, with production set to begin in 2019.

Lincoln left the show in order to spend more time with his family in England, so it's unclear where the movies will film, as production on the TV show takes place in Atlanta, Georgia. The movies only require Lincoln to be there for two months at a time, compared to the nine month stretches for the TV show.

AMC programming president David Madden says the movies won't feel like an extended TV episode, but will run near two hours and have a feature-film level budget.

The movies are only the first step in AMC's plan to milk The Walking Dead for years to come.
