DC fans, hold on to your butts… until 2021 where there will be at least three comic related films scheduled for that Summer. Warner Bros. is bringing you a cartoon, something darker, and something we're not quite sure of yet to go with your popcorn.
Starting the Summer will be the animated DC Super Pets movie on May 21, 2021. Jared Stern and Sam Levine will direct this movie. Not much else is known about this film.
"It's very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale. It's told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it's going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It's more Batman in his detective mode than we've seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He's supposed to be the world's greatest detective, and that's not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been. I'd love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it's going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation."
The Batman is due out on June 25, 2021.
Rounding out the Summer for DC is the sequel to the Academy Award winning Suicide Squad. The sequel will be penned (and maaaybe directed) by James Gunn. The Harley Quinn vehicle second film will be up at bat August 6, 2021.
Warner Bros. also scheduled two untitled films for July 16, 2021 (a "big title" with "big stars"), and October 1, 2021. Who knows, those might be DC-related too.
