The Marvel WonderCon 2012 Amazing Spider-Man panel brought some news about the future of Spider-Man and a future one other character who originally debuted in Amazing Spider-Man many years ago.
Marvel.com's liveblogs again bring us some live information about their panels at WomderCon, this time it's about Amazing Spider-Man (the comic, not the movie).
Attending the panel were Marvel Director of Communications Arune Singh, SVP of Publishing and Editorial Tom Brevoort, and Spider-Man artist Humberto Ramos. Dan Slott joined in on the fun a bit later in the event, first via liveblog, then via phone.
First topic was the newest story arc in Amazing Spider-Man, "Ends of the Earth" which starts this month. This is a Spider-Man versus Doctor Octopus and the Sinister Six with story by Dan Slott and art by Humberto Ramos and Stefano Caselli. Spider-Man will be working on a suit to counter all of the abilities of the Sinister Six.
"Ends of the Earth" will cross over with Avenging Spider-Man also written by Dan Slott joined by Ty Templeton, with art Matthew Clark.
Starting in June (Amazing Spider-Man $688), the next story arc will be "No Turning Back" which will feature the Lizard.
Spider-Men was very briefly teased, only stating it will be in June and that there are at least two Spideys in it. This title is by Brian Michael Bendis, Sara Pichelli and Justin Ponsor.
Scarlet Spider was discussed, with mention of Kraven appearing in issue #6.
"Enter the Savage Six" is coming in Venom. #17 in May. Rick Remender and Cullen Bunn are the writting team for that issue with art duties by Kev Walker. Venom #19 will feature Lan Medina art.
Omega Effect, which crosses over betwen Avenging Spider-Man, Punisher, and Daredevil was also mentioned.
This segued into the announcement of... Space: Punisher. This puts Frank Castle (though it's a different Frank Castle) in a science fiction setting, with aliens, monsters, high tech weaponry all brought to you by Frank Tieri and Mark Texeira.
Another title was also announced by Tom Brevoort: Minimum Carnage. No real details on the title, but Brevoort said "there will be minimum Carnage in a maximum way. The biggest little surprise in comics."
The panel did not forget that this will be a significant year for Spider-Man. Spidey's 50th anniversary will be celebrated throughout the year, but there is specific stuff in August. Slott mentions speific ties to Amazing Fantasy #15 in Amazing Spider-Man starting in August. Also, Stan Lee will be doing something will be doing something for Spider-Man's 50th. There's also Amazing Spider-Man #700 which lands this year, the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon, and the Amazing Spider-Man movie.
The panel ended with some Q&A. Of course someone had to ask about Peter and MJ, to which Slott answered "you will get what you want but not the way you want it."
