Satruday's first WonderCon 2012 Marvel panel (brought to you by marvel.com's liveblogs) focused on Marvel Television; Marvel Universe, Ultimate Spider-Man, and Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
Marvel Director of Communications Arune Singh and an ill (health) Jeph Loeb were heading up the talk.
The panel started with shout-outs to many of the folks doing the creative work for Marvel TV (eg. Cort Lane, Harrison Wilcox, Todd Casey, Wendy Willming, Megan Thomas Bradner, and Kalia Chang, and many others).
In case you haven't heard, the Marvel Universe block launches on Disney XD on 11:00 am Sunday, April 1st. This block will feature many Marvel TV shows.
The first topic was Marvel Mash-Up. These are roughly two-minute segments of old Marvel cartoons with new voiceovers played for comedy. Two of the shows slated for this treatment are Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends and the 80s Hulk cartoon. The writer for the pilot of this is Erik Richter of Harvey Birdman and Space Ghost revamp fame. The liveblog promised more information coming Monday on marvel.com.
Jeph Loeb promised the Marvel Universe block would expand and also talked a bit about the expansion of Marvel Animation Studios. They acquired a lot of talent including Eric Radomski (Batman: The Animated Series and Spawn), Ken Ito, Adam Tootla, and Shaun Avnet).
The first series that studio is working is Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. Test animation for this 2013 show was shown at the panel.
Next up, Ultimate Spider-Man animated. Alongside this show, a new all-ages comic will launch. A free copy of copy of the comic will be available March 28. Many of the folks working on the cartoon will be involved with the comic (also Dan Slott will be involved). Part 1 of the pilot, written by Paul Dini, was shown to the audience. The first villain is the Trapster. Other appearances include J. Jonah Jameson, Norman Osborn, Otto Octavius, Frightful Four, MJ (journalist), Flash Thompson, Harry Osborn, Aunt May, Nick Fury and a special janitor (voiced by Stan Lee). As seen in trailers, Spidey ends up associated with S.H.I.E.L.D.
Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes season 2 was the next feature. The Kree and Skrulls are in this and there is mention of Captain America being a Skrull as they watch episode 1 of season 2. Doctor Doom, Thing, Human Torch, Invisible Woman, Mr. Fantastic guest star in this. Card games, a Hulk and Thing fight, and self-destructing Doombots are all part of the fun, Cap wasn't the only hero revealed to be a Skrull.
The Avengers episode ended the panel.
