The Community directors may be taking Cap to school.
This is...unexpected. Then again, who really expected Patty Jenkins to sign on for the Thor sequel?
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting (possibly from Hollywood) that Joe and Anthony Russo are close to being signed to direct the next Captain America film. The Russo Brothers are known for directing such acclaimed television comedies as Arrested Development, Community, and Happy Endings, of which they also serve as Executive Producers.
Sayeth the Reporter:
The Russos beat out George Nolfi, the Bourne Ultimatum writer who made his directorial debut with The Adjustment Bureau. The bake-off lasted the better part of a month, with the contenders forced to study The Avengers as part of their exam. F. Gary Gray also was an early contender.Joe Johnston directed the first Captain America installment, starring Chris Evans as the titular hero. The movie, released in 2011 as part of Marvel's road to Avengers, grossed $368 million worldwide.
Personally, we're now going to be disappointed if the new Cap film isn't full of fast-paced witty rejoinders and shot in a high contrast single camera style.
