Bleeding Cool exposes a fake website using fake news to spread slanders about Marvel animation.
Two weeks ago, the Outhouse reported that Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes had been cancelled, citing marveltvnews.com, which claimed to have a copy of a "print-only" press release that confirmed the news. The Outhouse has since reported several other news bits from the site, mainly posting rumors from "exclusive sources" that only Marvel TV News has.
However, Rich "Not a Journalist" Johnston of Bleeding Cool did some searching and revealed that the site was run by a disgruntled fan named Nabil Mjati, who has become obsessed with attacking Marvel Studios after Spectacular Spider-Man was cancelled. Johnston expertly showed how deranged Mjati was by pointing out his obsession with attacking Jeph Loeb on Twitter and then creating a fake Jeph Loeb Facebook page for him and his fellow flunkies to attack to show their rage against Marvel Studios. Johnston also pointed out that the ENTIRE INTERNET had been hoodwinked by the lunatic.
Does this mean that Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes is actually cancelled? Well, we're back to having no official word from Marvel Studios. It should be noted, however, that Avengers: Assemble is currently looking for a network, which implies that it won't necessarily be replacing the beloved (by Jude Terror and Zechs) television show.
So what have we learned today? Not to trust a fansite that was set up to whine about children's cartoons. And also that Rich Johnston, despite his position as not being a journalist, is still a better journalist than most of the comics blogosphere.
