Heavy Metal goes day and date digital release for their 25th anniversary book Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse Book 1: Helldiver.
Since 1977, Heavy Metal magazine has been bringing wankable science fiction and fantasy comics to horny teenagers around the world. On June 27, the magazine, owned by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles creator Kevin Eastmen, will enter the digital age by releasing Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse Book 1: Helldiver digitally at the same time it is released in print.
This insane strategy, believed by many to be, along with reasonable prices, the sort of thing that will destroy the comic book industry for good, is rationalized by Eastman as follows: "We have fans all over the world and the demand for digital is overwhelming. It's not just about releasing new product anymore. The digital platform creates a new playing field. Fans want to be able to see a new product on the release day whether they are near a brick and mortar store or not. Four Horsemen has drawn a massive international appeal and it simply made sense to start the process as it hit stores."
But what about the children of comic shop owners who won't be able to go to college from the sales of one single customer buying $3.99 chapbooks, Kevin? What about the children?!
You can pick up Heavy Metal - Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse Book 1: Helldiver (the title is so long it requires a gatefold cover to print) on June 27 at www.heavymetal.com or at your local musty, dusty comic book shop.
