Donning a sweet leather jacket and baseball cap, DC megastar writer Geoff Johns is going to show people that comics can be cool.
Heeeeeyyyyyyyy. No, that's not The Fonz, it's Geoff Johns in one of DC's new San Diego Comic Con ads focusing on creators instead of characters. Yesterday, we mistakenly reported about DC's decision to hire male models for their new ads, only to learn that they were in fact various comic book professionals. Realizing that the hideously disfigured visage of writer Scott Snyder gave readers the wrong impression, DC wants to make sure that they show fans that comic creators can be totally awe some.
Today, DC released another ad, this time showing cool cat Geoff Johns in the actual act of retconning, something he's become synonymous with over the last decade. "This is where I grab a confusing concept by the balls," Johns explains. "Then, I violently rip them out, leaving it neutered and easy to understand." In the moment following the ad, Johns then pulled out an imaginary necklace covered in conceptual testicles and pointed out how they represented the balls of Hal Jordan, Hawkman, Aquaman and the Flash. He then turned to the camera and said "By the way, Nacireman, this is fucking satire."
The ad also reveals that despite Johns' status as a prolific creator, his lack of mastery over the English language must require heavy editorial oversight, as he apparently believes "Awe Some" is two words. Reading deeper into the text of the ad, you may also notice that fans are invited to "meet their maker," implying that DC actually wants their fans to die, and may well intend on killing them at San Diego Comic Con.
DC is promising one more of these creator-focused ads before the con, and The Outhouse is waiting with bated breath for the reveal. We are hoping for Dan Didio: tastefully nude.
