Want a Deluxe 25th Anniversary Princess Bride Blu-Ray Release? As You Wish!

The Princess Bride will be returning to Blu-Ray with a full-featured 25th anniversary edition!

If you purchased the 2009 bare-bones blu-ray release, you fell victim to one of the classic blunders, the most famous of which is "never get involved in a land war in Asia," but only slightly less well-known is this "never buy the plain blu-ray release when you know a much cooler super deluxe release will come out a few years later." Luckily, this reporter spent the last few years building up an immunity to iocane powder.

This new version is packed with features that are simply inconceivable - and yes, that word does mean what I think it means. Let me explain... no, there is too much. Let me sum up:

ALL NEW - TRUE LOVE: THE PRINCESS BRIDE PHENOMENON (Pts. 1 & 2) For 25 years, viewers have watched and loved The Princess Bride. But why does it resonate so strongly for all ages? This two-part featurette offers some answers, along with funny and touching tributes from its cast, director, writer and fans.

Part 1: TRUE LOVE: THE PRINCESS BRIDE PHENOMENON - A Conversation with Rob Reiner, Cary Elwes and Robin Wright. The director and his stars reunite for this lively discussion of the film's 25th anniversary, favorite fan encounters and memories from the set, illustrated by never-before-seen dailies.

Part 2: TRUE LOVE: THE PRINCESS BRIDE PHENOMENON - Hear from the film's creators and cast, passionate fans, and see film tributes and parodies, as we explore why the movie became a phenomenon. Interviewees include Rob Reiner, Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Billy Crystal, Mandy Patinkin, Christopher Guest, Chris Sarandon, writer William Goldman, executive producer Norman Lear, Rob's father Carl Reiner, and more.

Not bad at all. If only it had a wheelbarrow, that would be something.

The blu-ray comes out on October 2. And don't worry, if it bothers you, you don't have to watch the kissing parts.

In the meantime, head over to the Princess Bride facebook page and vote on the cover art for the release. Have fun storming the castle!
