SDCC: IDW Announces More Awesome Artist's Editions That Will Be Awesome

ComicsAlliance has exclusively announced that on the heels of the wondrous Daredevil: Born Again Artist's Edition, a gorgeous showcase of penciller David Mazzuchelli's work on that story, IDW Publishing will be exerting their considerable archival prowess on another Marvel great: the Spider-Man art of Gil Kane, one of the finest pencillers ever to grace the pages of Spider-Man-centric comics, will be the next Artist's Edition. Kane was responsible for such seminal stories as "The Night Gwen Stacy Died," which detailed the death of former Peter Parker love interest Gwen Stay (uh, spoilers), and the story in which Harry Osborn started to turn on, tune in, and drop out.
Mark Schultz' criminally underrated 1980's series Xenozoic Tales, which was originally published by Dennis Kitchen's Kitchen Sink Press, will similarly be collected in an Artist's Edition. With any luck, this will renew interest in the book and wash away the taste of Fox Televisions recent short-lived, and really bad Terra Nova. Xenozoic Tales takes place in a possible near-future in which humanity bungled everything in the world through pollution and war, and the whole planet was taken over by dinosaurs and other extinct flora and fauna. It was one of the great action adventure series of the 1980's independent comics boom, and Schultz' artwork deserves to be seen in its original form.
ComicsAlliance also gets the word out about a reprint of Dave Stevens' The Rocketeer: Artist's Edition, the first volume of IDW's Artist's Edition archives. So that's cool too.
