Starlord will Shape the Future of Marvel NOW!

The last character to be revealed in the Marvel NOW! Point One teasers is Starlord!

All week long, Marvel has been asking the question: who will shape the future of Marvel NOW? And every day, they have answered by revealing a new file in an image featuring Black Fury, known as Blurry, haphazardly tossing a bunch of classified documents at the reader, as if to say, "Pfffft, I'm Black Fury, I don't give a rat's ass about protocol and security clearances. Check this shit out!"

So far, we have seen Cable, Nova, Ant-Man, a possible new Young Avengers team, and finally, Starlord, a space-faring adventurer who was last seen sacrificing his life at the end of the Thanos Imperative in order to save the Universe, along with Nova. It is currently unknown whether the Starlord in the image will be the original, Peter Quill, or whether it will be a new character taking up the mantle. However, if Peter survived, it is possible that Richard Rider, the original Nova, did as well, which brings back into question whether the Nova featured earlier this week is Rider or Loebotmized Legacy character Sam Alexander.

One thing is clear - despite the jokes this reporter has had at the expense of these teasers throughout the week, the very stern look on the face of Black Fury accompanies a strong intiative by Marvel to put the focus on new or overlooked characters instead of the same core group of heroes that have dominate the Marvel Universe since the 1960s. If Marvel is serious about this iniative, it can only mean good things for a comics industry that has been criticized a lot for rehashing old stories and being afraid to let anything ever change. And they didn't even have to reboot their entire universe to do it!
