R.I.P. Abe Vigoda (1921-2016)

The actor is actually dead. No hoax not a fake-out. We sadly mean it.

Last year it was Christopher Lee, now another immortal has been taken from us, Abe Vigoda at the age of 94. 2016 has been utterly merciless how many celebrities it has taken from us and now Mr. Vigoda is just another name sadly to have been claimed this early in the year to the Grim Reaper. Maybe in the end, he finally decided to give death the win in the game of chess that so proudly said he loved to play.

It's still hard to actually be hit with the fact that this man is dead given well, we're so used to the joke of his passing. That there be a report or so of him dead and Abe ever a good sport to prove reports wrong appeared very much alive on late night television. The man was ever the good sport about it.

As an actor, my personal favorite roles of his were just his voice as Salvatore Valestra in Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (1993). Even if it was his freaking voice he was so darn intimidating in the flashback sequences. Until well, he met the Joker (Mark Hamill). The other great role I loved him best was as Phil Fish on Barney Miller (which was so good he got a spin-off which didn't lasted only one year). I mean yeah he was Tessio in the Godfather (1972), but honestly while I understand why some consider it to be the greatest movie ever, it just isn't my favorite movie ever. Fish though. His assholish charm was the best.

Even if this is actual fact with numerous sites saying that it is (even TMZ putting on their subject headline.. NOT A HOAX). A part of me just still doesn't buy it. I  almost half heartily expect him to be on Conan tonight to dispell the rumor. Of course, that's probably when the realization will then hit me.

Thank you Mr. Vigoda and my condolences to your friends and family.
