SDCC: Evil Ernie Returns

Evil Ernie will be returning with a murderous vengance from Dynamite Entertainment in October!

When Dynamite acquired the rights to most of the Chaos! Comics properties in 2010 (Lady Death was the most prominent not among those acquired), the one most fans were excited for a return of was definitely Evil Ernie. Evil Ernie was probably the most famous of Chaos! Comics' EXTREME stable of nineties characters, and, since he did not have breasts and would look disturbingly unattractive in a thong and bikini, stood out from amongst the rest of the overly sexualized products from the publisher, such as Lady Death, Chastity, Jade, and Bad Kitty.

Ernie will finally be seeing the dimly lit and oderous interiors of comic shops again as Dynamite is relaunching the series in October with the creative team of Jesse Blaze Snider and Jason Craig. Ernie's origin will require a little bit of retooling, as Snyider talked about in an interview with CBR:

"Evil Ernie was always a violent romantic," Snider said. "In the original series he killed for his love of Lady Death, this time around he's killing because he wants to make the world a better place for you and me, so the horrible things that happened to him when he was growing up never happen to anyone else... It's the story of a good kid with a bad life, who sells his soul to the devil so he can destroy the evil that surrounds him and make the world a better place. Problem is, the more bad people he kills, the closer we come to Armageddon.

"For me though, ultimately it is the answer to the question of 'nature versus nurture,'" Snider continued. "I say, it doesn't matter what your nature, anyone can be driven too far. Anyone can snap."

Check out the interview on CBR, and look out for Ernie and his anthropomorphic button Smiley in comic shops in October!
