SDCC: Coldplay Releases Mylo Xyloto Comic from Bongo

Coldplay announced at San Diego Comic Con that they will release a comic book based on their latest album Mylo Xyloto.

The new comic book will be co-written by Mark Osbourne and Dylan Haggerty, and illustrated by Alejandro Fuentes. This is the first comic Coldplay has released, but fans hope that it will feature the same qualities as their music. Mostly, this means that the comic will be vaguely depressing and will make people sleepy when they read it.

Though other bands, such as KISS, Public Enemy, Megadeth, Alice Cooper, and others have released comic books in the past (and some others should have!), Coldplay's comic marks the first time in the history of the band that they have done something that isn't just a copy of something Radiohead already did better. Lead vocalist Chris Martin described the process that led to the idea in this quote we made up:

"It was the oddest thing. I woke up one morning with a massive headache and this... this thing in my brain. I couldn't quite make it out. After three doctors' visits, I was about to check myself into a long-term mental care facility, when I finally figured it out: I had had an original idea! Man, my brain sitll aches from it."

Though the first issue is being released this week, the rest of the six issue series will be released monthly starting in February, 2013. Fans who don't feel like waiting can pop in a copy of the Mylo Xyloto album and give it a listen, but please be careful, as Coldplay's music has been known to drive listeners into a boredom-induced coma. If you feel yourself beginning to slip away, your best bet is to put something more upbeat and less depressing, such as one of those Tori Amos songs they play on the commercials about animal abuse, or an NPR talk show.
