Days after announcing that Josh Trank would direct Fantastic Four, Fox is now finalizing a deal to have Jeremy Slater write the Marvel superhero reboot.
Slater is a new filmwriter, who has two movies currently in production. The first,Tape 4, focuses on Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos and is development at Lionsgate. The other, My Spy, is a "teen spy comedy" a la Agent Cody Banks.
Fox is trying to develop a new Fantastic Four due to a rumored clause in its contract with Marvel that would cause the rights to revert back to the comic publisher and its parent company, Disney, should Fox not produce a new movie after a set amount of time. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, largely considered by superhero fans to be a failure, was last released in 2007.
