Here are some highlights from the IDW panel at San Diego Comic Con! TMNT, The Crow, Judge Dredd, and more!
IDW hosted a panel at San Diego Comic Con today. Here are some of the highlights:
-IDW's VP of Marketing Dirk Wood should come and write for the Outhouse, because he took some great shots at other companies' panels. First he joked that DC was currently rebooting their Universe again, and that in the new incarnation, Aquaman would be straight. Next he said that Rob Liefeld had just announced six new books at the image panel, which amounted to twelve feet the audience will never see. Then he announced that Image had promptly canceled all six books. EIC Chris Ryall joined in, saying that Alan Moore fired off an angry forty page email to DC, and that since all emails sent to DC are DC's property, DC announced a twelve issue maxi-series based on the emails titled Alan Moore: Before Xanax.
-Swierczynski talked about how his new Judge Dredd book plays to his strengths as a crime writer, calling Dredd the "ultimate fascist bastard," which means Swierczynski must not have seen Captain America in AvX yet. Nelson Daniel will handle art on the main story in the first two issues, with Paul Gulacy and Jim Starlin handling backup strips.
-Kevin Eastman is illustrating a 48-page Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles annual.
-A TMNT mini titled Rise of the Foot Clan will tell the story of how Shredder came to power and got to the present day continuity of the TMNT series.
-John Shirley talked about The Crow. The current incarnation of The Crow will be an American boy in Japan.
-Shirley is also writing a Zombies vs. Robots prose novella, in which zombies will fight robots.
-Brea and Zane Grant announced Let's Play God, illustrated by Eric J. Ryall, a "slasher comic about an all-girl punk band."
There was, unfortunately, no more news about the upcoming My Little Pony comic, the biggest story out of San Diego Comic Con so far this year.
