SDCC: Marvel TV Panel Featuring Jeph Loeb

Check out these highlights from the Marvel TV panel featuring Jeph Loeb at San Diego Comic Con, with news on Avengers Assemble, Hulk: Agents of Smash, Ultimate Spider-Man, and Marvel Knights!

News about the continuation of Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes continuity continuing into Avengers Assemble has quelled fanboy butthurt over the past two days, so hatred of Jeph Loeb was at an all-time internet low going into the panel. Here's the highlights:

- Loeb called Hulk the breakout character of Avengers, which only took about fifty years. He showed footage of Hulk: Agents of S.M.A.S.H. featuring Hulk, Red Hulk, She-Hulk, and A-Bomb, and Skaar. The clip featured the Hulk family fighting bugs and other monsters while shouting the rallying cry "Time to Smash!", which leads this reported to believe someone in the room left a douche open, as it's getting kind of chilly.

- Loeb then addressed the topic du jour (du mois?), Avengers Assemble. Loeb claimed that Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes was always intended to end after 52 episodes, a standard run that makes an animated series optimal for syndication. Loeb claimed that the next show, Avengers Assemble (formally announced right now), would continue the previous continuity, and likened the change to a creative team changing on a comic book.

This reporter finds Loeb's claims to be slightly dubious, as it would have been fairly easy to address this while fanboys were howling with rage over the issue for the past several months. However, we'll take what we can get, and this is great news for fans of the show.

Loeb showed an animation test from the show featuring Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Captain America, and Hawkeye fighting Fin Fang Foom in New York City. Loeb said that the animation and voices were not final.

- The Marvel Knights line of motion comics, "geared toward adults" (in other words, stop bitching about the kids shows, you fat fucks), will finish up Whedon's Astonishing X-Men, and delve into Inhumans, Wolverine: Origin, Jason Aaron's Wolverine: Weapon X, Damon Lindelof's Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk (which may be complete by the time it is animated), and Neil Gaiman's Eternals.

- Loeb showed an Ultimate Spider-Man Image showing Spidey's team facing Kraven, Rhino, The Lizard, and other villains.
