Shocker! The Avengers will have a sequel!
Despite a modest opening of a kajillion dollars last weekend, Disney announced yesterday that an Avengers sequel was officially underway. Bob Iger also reminded the world that the sequels to Captain America, Thor and Iron Man were also in the works and would be released prior to Avengers 2. Iger refused to answer any questions about the plot or release date, citing that all the money Avengers had made was making questions difficult to hear.
Interestingly, Iger also announced that Disney planned to open up several Avengers-themed attractions in their theme parks. Currently, Marvel properties only have a modest presence at the Disney parks, mainly in the form of merchandise in various stores. What this means for the Florida-based Universal Studios theme park, which has a Marvel section complete with comic book store, remains to be seen.
