DC to Relaunch Green Lantern Movie Franchise?

According to some reports, DC and Warner Bros. are considering a relaunch of the Green Lantern movie franchise, aiming for a darker and edgier Green Lantern who spends less time in space.

There's been a lot of news about DC's movie franchises lately, with the revival of plans for a Justice League movie and the announcement of a writer for the Wonder Woman movie. Now there is talk of relaunching the Green Lantern franchise, as the first movie tanked at the box office, taking in only $20 million more than its $200 million production budget. Back in 2010 when Warner first talked of a sequel to the movie, Warner President Jeff Robinov said that "to go forward we need to make it a little edgier and darker with more emphasis on action. ... And we have to find a way to balance the time the movie spends in space versus on Earth." Now it seems that even more drastic changes may be in line, as the studio is considering whether to even bring back star Ryan Reynolds, or completely relaunch with a new Green Lantern. There is some speculation that DC could use a reversal of Marvel's Avengers strategy and use the Justice League movie to introduce a new cast of DC heroes who would then spin off into their own franchises.
