July 19 is Dark Knight Rises Day at Comic Shops

To celebrate the release of Dark Knight Rises, DC Comics will be giving away free stuff at your local comic shop!

A Word From Our Sponsors... More Below!

Dakr Knight Rises hits theaters on July 20th, but DC Comics hopes you will visit your local comic book shop the day before to pick up Batman: Earth One Special Preview Edition, a fee comic book that contains the first chapter of Geoff Johns' upcoming Batman: Earth One graphic novel as well a preview from Batman Vol. 1 - The Court of the Owls, a trade paperback collecting the first story arc of Scott Snyder's Batman. More than 500,000 copies of the book have been printed and distributed to shops, so there are plenty go around.

It's a pretty nice gesture, but ultimately, kind of futile. DC has things ass-backwards here. Comic book fans do not need to be convinced to go and see The Dark Knight Rises in theaters. They've already bought their tickets and purchased their plus-sized Batgirl costumes (Cassie or Steph version - fuck Babs amirite?!). They'll be there on opening night.

And lord knows no one who isn't a hardcore comic book fan (distinguishable by having seen a live vagina) is going to step foot in that den of untreated body odor and virginity, the local comic book shop. What DC should be doing is giving away free copies of the comic book at movie theaters to entice the millions of people who will see the movie into realizing that comic books actually still exist, since they haven't seen one since 1992.

I guess it's the thought that counts, and hey, free stuff.
