Marvel Theme Park Coming....to Dubai

Dubai's not quite Disneyworld...but it's close.
The news has come out today that the Dubai-based IMG Group has partnered with Marvel Entertainment to build a 1.2 million square foot indoor amusement park based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The park will include a 350,000 square foot "Marvel Adventure family entertainment center" which will include international dining (centered around the global diversity of Marvel's superheroes), and a variety of retail outlets. The developers of the project are hoping that the theme park will be one of the largest in the area.
This is the second theme park to be announced by Marvel in the last month. Earlier this month, Disney announced that they would have an Avenger-themed park at their California Disneyland complex.
Judging from the global success of the Avengers, it's no surprise that Marvel's looking to branch out and expand its brand internationally. Dubai, while hit hard by the financial crisis, is a natural choice for a Eurasian market, as it remains a popular tourist destination (it was the eighth most visited city in the world in 2010) and has plenty of deep pocket investors. Here's to hoping that the ambitious project doesn't stall like several other high-profile construction projects in the emirate.
