After the success of Marvel's Thor, in which white comic book character Heimdall was portrayed by a black actor, the producers of The Wolverine are considering using Asian actors in the film.

Actor Hiroyuki Sanada of (LOST, Rush Hour 3) will play Shingen, the Silver Samurai the crime boss father of the Silver Samurai and Mariko. In order to play up the actor's Asian heritage, Fox will turn the character into an armored swordsman, a popular Asian stereotype. Hal Yamanouch (The Life Aquatic) will play Yashida, presumably another crime boss, which is an insult to Italian Americans, the traditional portrayers of such roles. In a baffling move, Fox has cast the roles of Shingen and Yashida as separate characters, despite the fact that, in the comics, Shingen Yashida is one character, the father of both Mariko and The Silver Samurai, Kenuichio Harada (he is a bastard). A second Silver Samurai later popped up, named Shingen Hashada. This reporter can only assume that the move is meant to bewilder audiences, attempting to get them to purchase tickets just to figure out what the fuck is going on.
Unknown actresses Tao Okamoto and Rila Fukushima will play Mariko and Yukio, two girls who Wolverine will likely slice to ribbons in the movie, because he is a murdering psychopath.
The Wolverine is set to be released on July 26, 2013, but Fox will leak it on the internet a few months early so that they have an excuse on which to blame the movie's underwhelming box office performance again.
