View from the Gutters is our weekly book club podcast. Each week we discuss one graphic novel or trade paperback, then nominate and vote on what to read for the next episode so you can read and discuss along with us.
This week on View from the Gutters our topic work is Seconds, by Bryan Lee O'Malley. Seconds is a beautifully drawn all-ages books which will very familiar to anyone who is a fan of O'Malley's previous work, Scott Pilgrim versus The World. It is the story of a young chef named Katie, who is in a period of transition in her life as she prepares to leave the restaurant she has spent the last 5 years working at in order to open a restaurant of her very own.
Through a series of odd events Katie is presented with the opportunity to edit her own history to correct one regret from her past. Things quickly spiral out of control, however, as Katie decides she isn't satisfied with just one change and begins a campaign to fix everything she ever did wrong in order to attain the perfect life. Unfortunately, things are never quite that simple.
In our recommendation section our hosts nominated Shooters, Queen and Country, Avengers Prime, What I Did, and Hawaiian Dick for discussion on the next episode, and our selected title is Hawaiian Dick.
We invite you to discuss both this episode and its topic on our subreddit.
Our hosts for this episode are Andrew Chard, Tobiah Panshin, Joe Preti, Brant Gillihan-Eddy, and Cade Reynolds.
