View from the Gutters #83 — Batman: Knightfall

This week on View from the Gutters we discuss Batman: Knightfall, the classic Batman event that introduced Bane.

View from the Gutters is our weekly book club podcast. Each week we discuss one graphic novel or trade paperback, then nominate and vote on what to read for the next episode so you can read and discuss along with us.

This is week one of our Rocking September Batman 75th Anniversary Extravaganza. During the month of September we'll be talking a lot about the caped crusader, starting right now.

This week on View from the Gutters our topic work is Batman: Knightfall, the classic first part of the Knight Saga which saw Bruce Wayne confined to a wheelchair, replaced him with Azrael as the Batman in what can only be described as the raddest Robo-Bat-Armor imaginable, and introduced Bane.

It was part of a wave of events at DC which saw many of their marque heroes replaced, and has since become an indelible part of the Batman canon, with images and motifs that are still being called back to today.

In our recommendation section, our hosts nominated Asterios Polyp, The Transformers [originally published by Marvel, collected as Transformers Classics by IDW], Namor: The Sub-Mariner, and Genesis for discussion on the next episode, and our selected title is Transformers Classics, Vol. 1 & 2 (collecting issue #1-25 of the Marvel series).

You can hear more about Batman from our sister podcast, Out of the Fridge, at

We invite you to discuss both this episode and its topic on our subreddit.

Our hosts for this episode are Andrew Chard, Tobiah Panshin, Joe Preti, and Cade Reynolds.
