View from the Gutters is our weekly book club podcast. Each week we discuss one graphic novel or trade paperback. We encourage listeners to read and discuss along with us.

This week on View from the Gutters our topic work is:

Alex + Ada

Story by . . . . . . Sarah Vaughn, Jonathan Luna
Art by . . . . . . . . Jonathan Luna

Alex + Ada is a 15-issue SF/Romance series set in the near future. Several years before the beginning of the series the world's first sentient AI was constructed and immediately went on a violent rampage. Following this all sentient AI were outlawed, although advanced non-sentient AI robots are prevalent.

The series follows a man, Alex, who is given such a non-sentient AI as a birthday present. Deeply unsatisfied with its lack of—for want of a better word—humanity, he sets on a course of action which leads him to "jailbreak" the robot, allowing it to achieve sentience. The series follows Alex and his now self-aware robot, Ada, as they navigate the perils of romance amid fear, violence, and deep-seated prejudice.

Our hosts for this episode are Tobiah Panshin, Brant Gillihan-Eddy, Kit DeForge, Kayleigh Fleeman, Joe Preti, and Cade Reynolds. On our next episode we will be reading Deadpool, by Joe Kelly, #1-16.

A special thank you to our Patreon sponsors for this month: Jeremy Ballard, Becca Levendowski, Tony Queretaro, Kerfy Gonzo, and Addison Appleby.
