S.WO.R.D. #1-3 – a fun series that just got canceled
X-Men Forever #15 – the best issue of this series yet. Say what you will about Claremont now vs. then, but he is the only writer that has ever made me give two shits about Storm, good or evil, and this issue was nearly perfectly written. Still not a fan of the art.
Amazing Spider-Man #617 – Never thought I’d care about a rhino story. Even when he was in Simone’s Deadpool run, he was just a throwaway villain. Joe Kelly not only wrote a story where I not only felt for the Rhino, but I also found myself rooting for him.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer #31 – besides Xander finally telling Buffy what for, yet another meh issue. I will give this series through the Twighlight storyline, because I am a glutton, but if this book stays on the level it is at, art included, I will have to drop it. Oh, and I just 'got' the Buffy villain's name (Twighlight) reference.
Daytripper #2 – Issues 1 and 2 of this series have been a breath of fresh air, and I am more than happy to go along for the ride, no matter how short it is. The fact that this is a limited series makes me hopeful that the Moon and Bá have a plan.
DMZ #49 – holy fucking shit!!!!
Orc Stain #1 – I picked up this book based on flipping through the book and being impressed at the amount of detail in the pencil work. Figuring that it really couldn’t hurt to try a new book, at first I was not very impressed with the story, figuring that it was just some adolescent, soft porn, fantasy story. But, by the time the issue ended, I became curious where the story would go. I am not saying this was a great book, but I will try #2.
Weekly World News #1 – In a world where the Weekly World News is the most reliable newspaper, weird shit happens. I really liked this book, and the concept is fun. I hope that this series is given the time it needs to find its comedic voice. Some of the jokes were very forced and obvious, but the idea behind this comic has the potential to lead to some really fun stories down the line. Give this book a shot.
