Review: Nova #4

Review: Nova #4

Another fun action packed issue.

Nova four starts up with Sam in space just after he stumbled upon an Chitauri armada to end last issue. Instead of just returning home and reporting his findings to Rocket & Gamora, Nova decides to bust inside the mother ship in an attempt to stop the whole armada. Upon entering the ship, he is greeted by a friend of his Father's.

That "friend" happens to be Titus, a former black-helmet Nova or Supernova that used to be in the corps with Sam's dad Jesse. In their encounter on board the Chitauri ship, Titus explains to Sam what happened to him after Jesse left a mission to see Sam being born. This betrayal in the eyes of Titus left him to bargain for his life with the Chitauri.

The Chitauri kept Titus alive for access to a Rigellian recorder, which holds untold secrets. The secrets on this particular recorder, gave Titus and the Chitauri the ability to build a ultimate nullifier. This device can either destroy or create whole empires. Just as Titus is finishing up his story and about to kill Sam, he uses his Nova force to stun Titus long enough to escape the ship with the ulitmate nullifier.

Still not able to communicate with Rocket & Gamora, Sam returns home to Arizona only to find Titus waiting for him and his helmet. This series just keeps getting better with each issue. There is no other book that I have more fun reading. Between the action, story line and just overall "badassery" of Nova, this series has to be on one's pull list. Loeb and McGuinness have done a great job on this book and it is unfortunate that the two will be leaving the series after next issue.

The new team will be Zeb Wells & Paco Medina and they will have thier work cut out for them. Under Loeb & McGuinness, Nova has encaptured the spirit of a teenage boy who gets super powers. From Sam's dialogue to his actions and emotions, this series does it all. In this issue in particular, I did find it odd that Rocket & Gamora are nowhere to be found. Where did they go? Did the Chitauri forces get to them? Did they discover Jesse isn't really dead? In any case I think Sam will need there help to stop Titus from killing him and in the process, taking his Nova helemt.
