The first few pages of this comic were great, a cheap trick but still fooled me. Kirkman has had no conscience about killing people off in The Walking Dead so why not here? But the images of Cecil geting his head choked off, Atom Eve being chopped in half, and The Wolf-Man having his brains stomped in were all just in Marks' head while on his way back to Earth. It may have been a simple shock tactic for the sake of gore but it does plant the seed of WTF is gonna happen when Mark and Co. get back to Earth, and when they do get back... nothing. It looks as if everything is fine and The Viltrumites hadn't come at all. But they are most definitely there and they want to talk over a truce with a pretty big condition. They can either destroy the planet or be allowed to live among the humans and secretly repopulate the Viltrumite race by breeding with the people of Earth. Of course Mark is opposed but knows he has no choice and unwillingly agrees to allow them to stay.
This may not have been the way I envisioned The Viltrumite War ending and I suppose it is far from over but there is no clear winner here and the things in the Invincible Universe are at pretty interesting point, I am curious to see where things go from here. Are we not gonna see much of the Viltrumites and have them be forgotten about then pop up later on or will we see firsthand the rebuilding of their race? Robert Kirkman continues to keep things very fresh in this title and it is always a joy to read, especially with the art team he has. I love the cartoony feel this book has, the blood and guts look so out of place with how bright and colorful this book is, it never comes across grim and gritty even when you see Marks' mothers head ripped off her body, I think it is a interesting contrast.
Along with The Viltumites now infiltrating Earth, we will also get to see what happens next with Mark and the pregnant Eve, we will also see Marks' mom and Nolan face to face again, and we will find out how Oliver is doing.
