Joss Whedon's brother Zach takes the weight of the long dead show, and places it on his shoulders for all of us poor souls.

It's official, hell has frozen over. Snow and ice in Florida. Not only that, but Firefly has returned...to comics. That's right folks, your beloved cult classic and long mourned series that died too young is back, brought to you by Dark Horse. The real question is, is it good? Is it worthy of all this time we've spent waiting? Please tell me I didn’t write hate letters to Fox for months for nothing!
Well, considering it's executive producer is Joss Whedon himself, and his brother (part of an incredible family history filled with writers) is doing the script, the answer is definitely yes. I almost said without a doubt...but I may have a tiny little one. Dark Horse asked us not to do spoilers, so I won’t. But I will tell you, it’s the same pacing, but not exactly the voice or wit of the show, at least not yet. There’s a lot of lead-up during the first half of the first issue, drawing the picture of fame for the both renowned and renounced-across-the-‘verse, Mal Reynolds. After we rummage through the first bloat, we get into the heart of the story. There are consequences from their actions in the movie, Serenity. That may be all I can say.
The art is great! There’s a team of 4 getting these pages perfect. Georges Jeanty (Buffy) is doing the pencils, Karl Story is inking them, Laura Martin is the colors, and lastly Michael Heilser on lettering. Can’t forget about that guy. Big team here, guys, with 4 more for the covers. So the art is pretty gorram good. Characters you already know and love look pretty good on the page.
I’d say it’s a solid “buy”. Considering it’s more than I can say for Dark Horse’s Halo series in terms of adaptations of an original series, saying to buy it is 100% genuine. It has potential to carry some really great weight & capture at least parts of the depth & culture there was in the series.

About the Author - LukeAnthony
Luke Anthony is the suburban rockstar you haven’t heard of yet. He responded to a call bellowing from the depths of Reddit. He’s writer and a reader. A husband & a craft-beer drinker. A father, and a dreamer. A musician and a thinker. Friendly and all-together weird, he cannot grow a beard, though he’s too old to have an excuse. He rhymes lousy words, making him sound absurd, and probably a little obtuse.
Luke loves comics & new friends, it’s a blessing and a curse. So make sure to find him on Facebook or the Twitterverse.
