From Dark Horse Comics comes The Victories #12! Written and drawn by Michael Avon Oeming, with colors by Nick Filardi, this issue includes a backup by Oeming, Taki Soma and Filardi. The cover features Lady Dragon doing battle with Sleeper’s familiar in Mexico.
The Bilderberg Society is holding itsi final meeting at The Suvretta House in Switzerland. Meanwhile, the remaining members of The Victories are meeting in The Palisades in Hudson Valley, New York, plotting their next move to rescue Lady Dragon.
The celestial scenes with Sleeper’s familiar provide a vivid contrast to the rest of the story thanks to Nick Filardi’s bright colors. Exploring the dream void is an interesting turn in Oeming’s story and it provides a solid twist on the character of Sleeper, although I did feel that upon Sleeper’s return from the dream void, he acted extremely out of character before returning to form literally immediately. I thought the inclusion of Egyptian mythology was very fitting, with Sleeper’s familiar being a cat.
The backup titled Little Brother, Big Brother is also by Oeming, Taki Soma and Filardi. The backup follows Sai and his early days as a crime fighter, as well as failed relationships. Taki Soma’s art is a bit cleaner and brighter compared to Oeming’s. It’s also nice to get a little history of members of The Victories through backups.
The pieces of the puzzle are slowly falling into place as The Bilderberg Society readies its plan and The Victories are shattered and scattered. As the final hour draws near, this series can’t arrive fast enough!
