The Victories reunite with Lady Dragon!
The final arc of The Victories, Metahuman, crests in The Victories #13. Written and drawn by Michael Avon Oeming with colors by Nick Filardi, the cover by the same pair features Lady Dragon blazing through a celestial scene flanked by Faustus and Sai.
What’s remaining of The Victories are battling a perverted version of Quetzalcoatl trying to rescue Lady Dragon, while she’s willingly working alongside The Bilderberg Society. The Victories have to make their way through the traps set for them and come face to face with the old teammate.
Michael Avon Oeming keeps the story tight and quickly paced as he marches towards the inevitable end. It doesn’t seem like much happens in this issue, as it’s a quick read, but it’s setting up the ending perfectly. Lady Dragon’s turn from face to heel is a testament to Oeming’s writing ability, as it is unexpected and yet to be seen if she follows through with The Bilderberg Society’s plans.
Oeming also handles art duties giving him complete control over the story pacing and design. The Aztec temples are finely detailed and cavernous, allowing ample room for the technology The Bilderberg Society have brought into them. The double page splash of Quetzalcoatl is both awe-inspiring and frightening. Nick Filardi’s colors range from bright blues, to muted browns to bright yellows.
All good things must come to an end and The Victories is no different. Michael Avon Oeming is doing his damndest to make The Victories go out on the highest note possible.
