The B.P.R.D. gets to the bottom of Kate Corrigan's possession.
Wrapping up the short two issue arc, The Devil’s Wings, is B.P.R.D. Hell on Earth #121! From Dark Horse Comics, B.P.R.D. Hell on Earth #121 is co-written by Mike Mignola and John Arcudi, with art by Laurence Campbell and colors by Dave Stewart. The cover by Campbell is a split image of Kate Corrigan and the vet who is possessing her.
We’re introduced to a flashback of Professor Bruttenholm and the B.P.R.D. on an early mission to deal with Captain Breccan told by the researcher. Meanwhile in the present, the B.P.R.D. are dealing with Kate’s increasingly odd behavior.
The dueling plot lines converge here as the past and present collide and opening with a brief exchange between Kate Corrigan and Liz Sherman allows Mike Mignola and John Arcudi to immediately show the type of working relationship they have.
The inclusion of Hellboy in the flashback allows Laurence Campbell to an adorable and brave young Hellboy. The use of heavy sepia tones during the flashback, by Dave Stewart, creates a rusty color instead of the normal bright red on Hellboy. The true nature of the possessor makes great use of the medium with a great left page reveal and Stewart’s colors providing contrast to the rest of the story.
B.P.R.D Hell on Earth is the most consistent book on the stands. With an enormously fleshed out backstory and ability for new readers to jump in anytime, this is a book that should be on everyone’s pull list.
