The explosive second to last issue!
The penultimate issue of The Victories is released this week from Dark Horse Comics. The Victories #14, part of the arc Metahuman, written and drawn by Michael Avon Oeming, with colors by Nick Filardi, has a cover, by Oeming and Filardi, of Faustus ripping his mask, while kneeling in front of a looming Metatron.
Opening on a former Area 51 employee, we’re introduced to the fact that the general population is gaining knowledge of the government’s complicity with The Bilderberg Society. The remaining members of The Victories have confronted Lady Dragon about The Bilderberg Society’s world takeover.
Michael Avon Oeming throws in everything except the kitchen sink here, as he lays out the final steps of his magnum opus and takes bold moves to keep the readers guessing. This issue is dialogue-heavy as Lady Dragon’s father and head of The Bilderberg Society, in typical villain fashion, explains his plans. Lady Dragon’s turn from face to heel to face is an interesting character arc, as she watches her former friends struck down before her.
Oeming utilizes plenty of two page spreads to highlight the monumental nature of this issue. Keeping in time with the large amount of dialogue, is the way Oeming keeps the fight constantly marching forward, with his unique art-style and big battles. The pages are always busy and exciting, but are never overwhelming. Nick Filardi’s colors complement Oeming’s art to a tee, whether they’re glowing greens or blood reds, which there are plenty of. The final page perfectly captures the tension of The Victories world that Oeming and Filardi have created.
Michael Avon Oeming is ramping up the action here as the series is quickly coming to a close. No one is safe and anything can happen in The Victories!
