S for Gunslingers. This is the first of issue of the comic adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower. The story opens with a group of young gunslingers learning from their instructor, Cort. The main character, Roland, is already faster than his classmates. When the the apprentice gunslingers feel worthy, they must best Cort in combat to become a gunslinger or face a life of exile. Rolands’s mother, Gabrielle, is being abused by Marten, who is a wizard and chief advisor to Roland’s father, Steven. Roland challenges Cort and beats him in combat. He has earned the right to be a gunslinger. At the end, Roland’s father, Steven, shows up to his son.
I thought this was a good start. Having never read the books I was a little confused at first. I found the story to be very interesting. It was a good introduction to the characters and their world. The writers did a great job of pulling me in for the long haul of the series. What did you think Wussy?
John Lewis: I am Your Captain, bitch!!!Â
Yeah, I thought it was a good start too. I’ve read maybe three or four of these books so I had the basic idea who Roland, Cort, Marten, and the rest were and wasn’t too confused. It was kind of a basic beginning with a little twist at the end.
What do you think of the art, Wimpy?
Tony Mourlot: MUTINY BITCH!!!Â
I thought the art was fantastic. Jae Lee is a great penciler. I was skeptical of how his work would look with Isanove’s coloring but it looked great. The characters looked good as did the backgrounds and action scenes. What are you thoughts on the art Captain Coward?
John Lewis: I’LL MUTINY YOUR ASS!!!
Yeah, I think the art looked very nice. Also, I think the colorist, Richard Isanove, deserves some credit too as he did a good job bringing Lee’s stuff to life.
