American super-villains are pouring into Canada faster than alcohol down Known Human’s throat and it’s up to Sasquatch to stop it yet he’s dead. Boy, does it must suck more than usual to be Canadian.
In Omega Flight #1, Canada decides that enough is enough and recruits Dr. Walter Langkowski a.k.a. Alpha Flight’s Sasquatch to lead a “final chances” team to stop the American criminals. With him is USAgent (shouldn’t it be US Agent or USA ‘gent), Arachne (formerly known as Spider-Woman MDXLII), and an unknown who Sasquatchie doesn’t want (go read Civil War: The Initiative to find out). He goes and tries to recruit Talisman but fails. Afterwards, the Wrecking Crew go on a rampage in Canada due to “I’m Bringing Sexy Back”, Sasquatch tries to explain the virtue of the words Justin Timberlake is singing with his fists, but the Wrecking Crew’s hate is just too wrong for Sasquatchie (that doesn’t roll off the tongue nicely, does it?).
Mike Oeming’s a great writer and Omega Flight #1 was no expection. In just one issue, he gave more depth to the story than most writers do in a whole story arc. You can’t help but feel sorry when Sasquatch is called a clone. Which brings me to another point, even though Oeming does not explain how Sasquatch survived, he does get bonus points for paying homage to the Indiana Jones movies. And while Oeming’s his usual greatness, Scott Kolins’ art is perfect for this book and looks the best it’s ever been. This is one flight that shouldn’t be delayed and stuck on the track for eight hours as you listen to some whiny baby crying (boy, did that joke suck…).
