S for that piss can on your head!!! In this issue, Nova battles a giant robot destroyer thingie and bugs and then lands on Earth’s moon ready for his showdown against Iron Man!!

I think this issue was okay at best. It didn’t really have much to it however I think there’s going to be a big shitstorm soon once Nova finds out the situation among Earth’s heroes.

Tony Mourlot: I didn’t find this issue to be an enjoyable read at all. Nova is racing from one disaster to the next. It seems to me the writers counted on the readers to be familiar with the character and read Annihilation. I feel a first issue should introduce the character or in this case, reintroduce the reader to the character. Basically, gives us a recap of the origin. The writers failed in that respect. As a new reader, I was lost throughout the issue. I did find Nova’s interaction with the Worldmind to be a good part of the story and the action scenes were good. But, overall, not a good first issue. It relied on the reader being too familiar with the backstory. What did you think of the art?

John Lewis: The art is very nice. I do think Nova’s helmet looked a bit odd though.

Yeah, I understand what you’re saying. If I didn’t waste a hour in Border’s reading the first Annihilation hardcover, I’ll probably be confused as well.

Tony Mourlot: The art was good. Sean Chen always does a great job. Nothing spectacular but a solid effort. I wish the series had been more accessible to new readers, but I felt like I was missing a huge chunk of something I needed to know to really enjoy the issue.

John Lewis: Or even what the hell is happening.I hope the fight with Iron Man takes all of the next issue.

Tony Mourlot: I’ll probably flip through it at the shop when it comes out. If it looks good I may buy it.

John Lewis: Read it upside down. I bet all comic books are even better that way.

Tony Mourlot: Only one thing could make that better. Reading it upside down while on the crapper.

John Lewis: Too true. Maybe throw in some booze and hookers too and we really got something there.

Tony Mourlot: I think you’ve got something there. BRILLIANT!!!

John Lewis: BRILLIANT!!!

Go here to discuss.
