Title: The Immortal Iron Fist #6
Writer: Ed Brubaker and Matt Fraction
Artist: David Aja and Russ Heath
Publisher: Marvel
The two Iron Fist’s have their big showdown with Davos the Steel Serpent, his bird women, and Hydra.
Not really a big suprise but this issue kicks ass. The fight scenes rule as do the flashbacks as Aja and Heath are very talented. I’m a bit sad that Orson Randall is dead, as he was probably the coolest character created this year, but I’m sure Brubaker and Fraction have other great stuff in store.
Title: World War Hulk: X-Men #1
Writer: Christos Gage
Artist: Andrea DiVito
Publisher: Marvel
The Hulk shows up at the X-Mansion, battles the New X-Men and the Beast, and then gives Professor Xavier an ultimatium by asking if he would’ve voted to throw Hulk into space.
Creative team-wise, this is a match made in heaven as Gage and DiVito are soon going to be moving on to bigger things and they don’t disappoint.
Title: Silver Surfer: Requiem #2
Writer: J. Michael Straczynski
Artist: Esad Ribic
Publisher: Marvel Knights/ Marvel
The Silver Surfer helps Spider-Man with a villain then Spidey returns the favor by playing psychiatrist.
While some people, myself included, may not like Straczynski’s Amazing Spider-Man run, I always thought he had a good handle of Spidey’s character and this issue shows that off. And Ribic’s art is awesome.
Title: Criminal #7
Writer: Ed Brubaker
Artist: Sean Phillips
Publisher: Icon/ Marvel
Tracy Lawless gets the job but it looks like there’s troubled water ahead for him.
I don’t know what to say, to be honest. This is really good, well-crafted stuff and if you’re missing out… well, you suck. Neener neen neener.
Title: Jack of Fables #12
Writer: Matthew Sturges and Bill Willingham
Artist: Tony Akins
Publisher: Vertigo/ DC
Jack and his sidekick Pathetic Fallac- I mean, Gary (possibly Kevin) get captured near the Grand Canyon, thrown off a ledge there, and somehow survive so Jack can get stabbed with a giant sword. It’s almost like a gay porno. Almost.
Jack was always the best part of Fables and this issue shows him off in his whole… grandeur (yeah, that works). Also, Wicked John shows up who’s just completely funny as hell. Art-wise, well, it’s the regular artist so he’s good (BRIAN BOLLAND RULES!!!)…. Um.. That’s all.
To discuss.
